The work has recently been at the paper restorer to be fully cleaned and preserved for the futured. We also had the work reframed in a new 24 kt gold leaf frame and set with UV-resistant museum glass, all these upgrades together lift the work to museum quality.
Charles Leickert (1816-1907)
Charles Leickert was a student of W.J.J. Nuijen and from 1839 by Andreas Schelfhout. Especially this last master had a lot of influence on his work. Leickert painted beautiful Dutch ice scenes, summer landscapes and river views in which he incorporated all kinds of motifs from his sketchbooks. After 1845 he also painted beach scenes and cityscapes. The appeal of his paintings is determined, among other things, by the lighting and strong narrative details. Leickert was a true craftsman, who was able to convey the right mood in a clever way and thus sensed the taste of the audience.
