This bust belongs to contemporary and fellow artist Edgard Tytgat, one of his best friends with whom he shared a studio. The original in plaster is included in the permanent collection of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Brussels.

As a pivotal figure of Brabant Fauvism, Rik Wouters left behind a brilliant and colorful oeuvre, in sharp contrast to the dramas that plagued his existence until his untimely death in 1916, at the age of 33. Rik Wouters was a master of painting, sculpting and drawing: his special career today elevates him to an unmistakable representative of Modern Art in Belgium.

Provenance: The current owner bought the piece at the TEFAF at Noortman. From a private collection in Brabant.
