Description

Bernard de Hoog is best known as a painter of moody Dutch farmer's interiors, a genre that became very popular in our country, especially after 1880. He lived and worked in Amsterdam until he moved to Laren in 1899, where he became acquainted with the work of painters such as Albert Neuhuys, Hendrik Kever and Evert Pieters. In his interiors, De Hoog generally emphasizes the figures, usually mothers and children, who, quietly going about their daily activities, are the epitome of a serene, domestic happiness. After 1924, when he lived in The Hague, De Hoog also painted fishermen's life and occasionally a landscape with cattle. Much of his work was bought by collectors in America, Canada and England.

Work size: 22 x 18 cm
