Description

Frans Langeveld (1876 –1939), covered wagon on the Amsterdam canal, oil on canvas booten size: 65 x 85 cm, inner sizes: 40 x 60 cmth born Amsterdammer Frans Langeveld studied chemistry before fully focused on painting. He attended lessons at the National Normal School in the capital and was then a student of G.W. Dijsselhof. He initially painted landscapes, many Amsterdam cityscapes and interiors. His work is sturdy, robust and somewhat rough in structure. Winding people, action, movement and the epic in nature attracted him. From 1903 he regularly came to Laren, where he settled and where he painted farmers interiors with figures. He was more realist than his artistic colleagues.
