Bernard de Hoog is best known as a painter of moody Dutch peasant interiors, a genre that became very popular in our country especially after 1880. He lived and worked in Amsterdam until he moved to Laren in 1899, where he became acquainted with the work of painters such as Albert Neuhuys, Hendrik Kever and Evert Pieters. In his interiors, De Hoog generally emphasises the figures, usually mothers and children, who, in quietly carrying on with their daily activities, are the epitome of serene, domestic happiness. After 1924, while living in The Hague, De Hoog also painted fishing life and the occasional landscape with cattle. Much of his work was bought by collectors in America, Canada and England.
Viewing is of course possible. We also have our own in-house frame shop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary year. The condition of the work, concerns only the work and not the frame. We also use restorers from the trade association 'Restauratoren Nederland'. Should you wish to make use of both, please let us know.
