An early work by Domergue shows a charming lady on a staircase with a reclining man at her feet, under a parasol. The work is signed lower right and dated (19)23.
The French painter Jean-Gabriel Domergue (1889-1962) was a pupil of Edgar Degas and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, and is best known as a portraitist of poetic Parisiennes and graceful nudes. He also made a name for himself as a designer of art deco posters with elegant women as eye-catchers.
