Meyer Wigland (1929-2006)
Meyer-Wiegand came from an artistic family: his father was a conductor and pianist, his mother a concert singer. He started painting at an early age, in the tradition of the Düsseldorfer Malerschule. Later inspired by the French impressionists Degas and Vuillard, he starts painting figures and portraits are created. His oeuvre shows a varied theme: (river) landscapes, harbours, park scenes, folk festivals and lively cityscapes, painted with a loose touch. Meyer-Wiegand worked in Cologne and Düsseldorf and made numerous study trips abroad. He stayed in Holland (around 1935), Belgium, France, Switzerland, Italy, Greece, Spain and the United States.
