The Antwerp painter and watercolorist Henri Cassiers became particularly famous with his landscapes and marines painted in warm colors in Flanders and Zeeland. In addition, like his Belgian contemporaries Edgar Farasyn and Maurice Sys, he had a special preference for the picturesque fishing life of Katwijk and Volendam. Cassiers' watercolors were immensely popular in his time and were widely printed on picture postcards, posters and tiles. The painter was also known as a book illustrator and he was president of the Societé Royale Belge des Aquarellistes for more than thirty years. Museums: including Royal Museums of Fine Arts in Brussels.
