Many of Eeckhout's works depict Scheveningen fishing life. He often painted vivid scenes with vibrant colors. His works can be seen in several museums, including the Teylers Museum. The artwork offered shows a similar depiction by his hand.

Jacobus Josephus Eeckhout (Antwerp, June 2, 1793 - Paris, December 25, 1861) was a Belgian painter.
Eeckhout studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, where he became proficient in sculpture in addition to painting. Eeckhout preferred painting, producing mainly historical scenes, genre pieces and portraits. In 1829, he joined the art academies of Amsterdam, Antwerp, The Hague, Brussels and Rotterdam. In 1831 he moved to The Hague, where he became director of the Royal Academy of Arts in 1839.
In 1844 Eeckhout returned to Belgium and in 1859 he moved to Paris, where he died in 1861.
