Hendrik van Os, better known as Henri van Os-Delhez, trained as a decorative painter at the Ambachtsschool and the Tekenschool voor Kunstambachten in Amsterdam. However, as the free painting profession attracted him much more, he developed himself further and took painting lessons from impressionist Arnold Marc Gorter. Van Os-Delhez painted a wide range of subjects: flowers, still lifes, landscapes, church interiors and cityscapes in a loose, impressionist style. A preference for the use of earthy colours characterises his oeuvre. He lived and worked successively in Amsterdam, Laren and Blaricum (1928) and also worked extensively in Paris and southern France.
