Description

The artist Many Benner (1873-1965) grew up in an artistic family as the son of Jean Benner and nephew of the famous Emmanuel Benner. At the age of 16, he entered the École des Beaux-Arts and was soon honoured with high awards and medals.

While his uncle Emmanuel Benner also often painted nudes, but still characterised by naturalism and symbolism, Many Benner transcended models on an ethereal level. Thus, he is able to emphasise the beauty of the body with little colour and resolution forms, but covered by a spell.

Artworks by Benner in public collections: Musée des Beaux-Arts of Mulhouse, Charleville and Le Havre.

The offered artwork in pastel shows a beautifully stylised seated nude, in the artist's signature style.

The artwork is signed in the lower left corner. The dimensions of the work are 39 by 31 cm.

The work comes from private ownership. The work is framed behind museum glass.

You can view the work during opening hours or by appointment at Art Dumay in Nuenen.
