Pierre Guillaume is the pseudonym used by Leiden painter Peter Willemse for his "en plein air" painted beach scenes along the Dutch coast and in Portugal and Indonesia. They are sunny, impressionistic scenes in which the painter not only wants to depict mood and atmosphere but also wants to tell something about beach life. His titles underscore this aspiration. In addition, Willemse paints realistic still lifes in the privacy of his studio.
