Paul Bodifee was born in 1866 in Deventer. After attending the School for Drawing Education and the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam, he returned to Deventer, where he became a arts teacher. In addition, he developed into a famous painter of Overijssel landscapes in which he managed to capture the atmosphere of the somewhat dry, sandy Salland. Bodifée also painted old Deventer city neighborhoods and landscapes in and around Giethoorn.
