Emile Baes (1879 –1954), the Spanish woman, oil on canvas booten size: 91 x 109 cm, inner sizes: 70 x 80 CMEMILE BAES was born in Brussels in 1879 and received his education at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts. Around 1900 he moved to Paris, where he was taught by history painter Alexandre Cabanel (1823-1889) and portraettist Léon Bonnat (1833-1922). Baes has made a name for himself with his nudes. At the start of his career he painted in an academic style, most likely under the influence of his teachers. But soon he opted for impressionism. From 1903 Baes exhibited on the Brussels Salon.
