Description

Jacob Maris (1837-1899)
Dimensions work: 22 x 14 cm
Signature: Bottom left (18)63

Provenance: from a Dutch private collection

Jacob Maris was one of the most important painters of The Hague School. Like no other, he knew how to capture the silver-grey tones of a Dutch cloudy day and combine them with deep browns, ochres and the occasional touch of colour. He mainly painted landscapes, cityscapes and beach scenes, preferably under impressive cloudy skies. Influenced by the French Barbizon School, he worked directly after nature. He had great international success and his work was sold as far away as Scotland and the United States.

Viewing is of course possible. We also have our own in-house frame shop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary year. Furthermore, we use restorers from the trade association: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. The condition only relates to the work. The frame is included, but damage to the frame will not be compensated.
