Description

Christiaan Cornelis Kannemans (Breda, 13 July, 1812 - there, 3 January 1884)
Kannemans was a Dutch painter and photographer. He was one of the first marine painters from North Brabant. Initially a house painter, he rapidly built a successful career as a painter. His painter's shop was transformed into a studio. Among others, King William II commissioned him and supported him financially, giving him commissions so that he could take study trips along the coasts of some neighbouring countries. The sketches he made served as the basis for his artworks. He taught drawing at two schools in Breda. During his lifetime, he exhibited in Dunkirk and Philadephia.

Panel dimensions: 57 x 43 cm
Provenance: Dutch private collection
Signature: Bottom centre - C.C. Kannemans

Viewing is of course possible. We also have our own in-house frame shop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary year. We also use restorers from the trade association 'Restauratoren Nederland'. The work is in good condition in terms of paint, but of note are a few cracks in the panel, shown in the photos. Incidentally, these have been fixed. If you would like to make use of this, please let us know.
