Description
Baruch Lopes de Leão Laguna (1864-1943) was a Dutch painter of Portuguese-Jewish descent, known for his portraits, cityscapes, and floral still lifes. He was influenced by the Hague School and Impressionism, which is reflected in his refined brushwork and subtle use of color.
He was a respected portrait painter, creating works that included members of the Dutch Jewish community. His art often strikes a delicate balance between realism and the impressionistic play of light. Tragically, he lost his life in Sobibor concentration camp during World War II. His work remains appreciated and collected today.
