Emile-André Boisseau (1842-1923)
Boisseau is one of the greatest French sculptors of the second half of the nineteenth century. During his lifetime he was vice-president of the Association of French Artists and chairman of the syndicate for artistic property. Boisseau was even knighted as an officer of the French Legion d'Honneur in 1900.

Ense & Aratro: (Latin for) with sword and plow. That should stand for a civilian and soldier in peacetime and wartime. It was symbolic for the French citizen who is always at the service of the fatherland.

Stamp: Société des Bronzes de Paris (1875-1930)

La Société des Bronzes de Paris (The Paris Art Bronzes Society) was active from 1875 to 1930. This foundry was located in Paris at No. 41 boulevard du Temple and No. 14 rue Beranger.

Provenance: From a bronze collector from South Limburg.

In good general condition, however the sword is missing.
