Vertin mainly lived and worked in The Hague. He painted cityscapes and streets in summer and winter. Sometimes his work is topographical, but mostly he painted fantasy faces. Especially in his streets in winter, he paid a lot of attention to the reflection of the light on the snowy roofs, window frames and sidewalks.
