Cornelis Albertus Johannes Schermer (1824-1915)
The Netherlands had a number of well-known horse painters in the 19th century. One of them was C.A.J. Schermer, whose oeuvre is characterized by a great diversity of subjects. He painted the more traditional stable interiors and plowing horses, but also elegant hunting parties, stagecoaches and horse races. Schermer mainly lived and worked in The Hague, where he studied at the academy.
