A beautiful German Orientalist work by the German Orientalist Bernard Kühn. At the end of the nineteenth century, in the aftermath of the British voyages of discovery to Egypt, it became the rage among wealthy citizens to have themselves portrayed in an Orientalist way. This was seen as a kind of excuse for the tight social straitjacket these ladies found themselves in during daily life.
