The autodidact Evert Jan Ligtelijn was born in Amsterdam in 1893 and lived and worked in this city for a long time. He also lived in Naarden and Gorssel. In particular, Amsterdam cityscapes vary in style from an extremely moodful impressionism to powerful, very quirky designed impressions. Ligtelijn also painted portraits and still lifes and made several long journeys, including to North and South America.
