Jan Simon Knikker sr. belonged to the painters who in the 20th century continued the loose brushwork of the Hague Scholars and their preference for the atmospheric depiction of nature. He is therefore, like his son Jan Knikker jr., counted among the ‘offspring’ of the Hague School. Knikker sr. mainly painted water scenes, landscapes and townscapes. He lived in Hillegom and Leiden, and from 1914 in The Hague. His work was much sought after abroad.
Viewing is of course possible. We also have our own in-house frame shop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary year. We also make use of restorers from the Dutch Restorers' Association. If you would like to make use of them, please let us know.
