Jacob Jan Coenraad Spohler was taught by his father Jan Jacob, and showed himself to be a good student by specialising in landscape, with both summer and winter scenes. Above all, he painted ice entertainment with many figures: snow-covered farmlands along mirrored ice plains with swaying skaters and a biscuit stand, rendered in infinite variations. J.J.C. Spohler lived and worked in Amsterdam and regularly exhibited his paintings, including at the Living Masters exhibitions.
The offered painting shows a fine winter landscape with figures on the ice.
