Albert Saverys (1886-1964) was a significant Belgian painter known for his impressionistic and luministic works. Born in Deinze, he came from a family involved in the arts, with his father being a stage painter. Although he faced challenges early in life, including the death of his father, which forced him to work in the family business, he pursued formal art education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent, studying under notable artists like Georges Minne and Jean Delvin.
Initially influenced by luminism and pointillism, Saverys's style evolved significantly after World War I. He interacted with contemporaries like Constant Permeke and Gust De Smet, which led him to explore expressionism before establishing his own unique style. He drew inspiration primarily from the landscape around the river De Leie in Ghent, and his works often reflect a rhythmical and vibrant quality.
