Review Ki Batei (1734–1810) - Two men
Description
Ki Batei (1734–1810) was a Japanese painter and poet from the Edo period, renowned for his contributions to the bunjin-ga style, also known as literati painting. This style, inspired by the Chinese literati tradition, prioritized artistic expression and personal interpretation over technical precision.
Batei was deeply influenced by the philosophy and aesthetics of Chinese Confucianism and Taoism, which were reflected in his paintings of landscapes, plants, and animals. His works are characterized by delicate brushwork, soft colors, and a poetic atmosphere, often accompanied by calligraphy.
