Arie Zuidersma (1925–2014) was a Dutch painter best known for his expressive style and colorful works. He was born in Groningen and was part of the "Groninger Ploeg," an artist collective that focused on expressionist and often abstract painting. Zuidersma's works are influenced by the expressionist movement, particularly through his use of bold colors and dynamic brushstrokes.
His subjects varied, but he often painted landscapes, portraits and still lifes. In many of his works nature is a recurring theme, in which he captured the landscapes of the Groningen countryside and the Wadden Islands in a powerful and sometimes abstract way.
Zuidersma developed a very personal style, recognizable by the bright use of color and the strong shapes. His work was exhibited both nationally and internationally and he had a long career, in which he reached a wide audience.
