Hobbe Smith was a Dutch painter, born on December 2, 1862, in Witmarsum and passed away on April 1, 1942, in Amsterdam. He was known for his realistic and impressionistic paintings, often depicting daily life and maritime scenes. Smith studied at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam, where he was taught by August Allebé.
Throughout his career, he exhibited his work both nationally and internationally and received various awards. His paintings are characterized by detailed depictions of subjects and a subtle use of light and color. In addition to paintings, Smith also created etchings and watercolors.
Smith’s works are included in various museum and private collections and remain highly valued by art collectors and admirers of realistic and impressionistic art.
