Description

Roger van Belleghem (1922–2002) was a Belgian painter and sculptor renowned for his imaginative and surrealistic compositions. Born in Beernem, Belgium, he pursued his artistic education at the Academy in Bruges, Sint-Lucas in Ghent, and the National Higher Institute of Antwerp.

Van Belleghem's work often juxtaposed the female nude with themes of dismemberment, death, and societal aggression, reflecting a deep exploration of the human condition. His refined technique and vivid imagination led to the creation of fantastical and bizarre figures, inviting viewers into a magical realist world.

Throughout his career, he received numerous accolades, including the honorary diploma at the Salon d’Art Libre de Paris in 1966, the Contemporary Art Prize in Belgium in 1968, and the first prize Edm. Deglumes in Mechelen in 1980. His works have been exhibited across Belgium, Europe, and the United States, earning him recognition among art connoisseurs worldwide.
Van Belleghem's legacy endures through his captivating artworks, which continue to be appreciated for their depth and artistic mastery.
