Description
Charles Rochussen came from a wealthy family and only chose to pursue painting at a relatively late age. He mainly painted scenes from Dutch history and soldier scenes, where his extensive knowledge of historical costumes and uniforms proved to be very useful. He also chose as subjects the pastimes of Dutch society, such as horse racing, falcon hunting, and sailing competitions. Rochussen was a skilled lithographer and illustrated many books.
