Cornelis ('Neel') de Kort, born in 1910 in Hoboken, Belgium, was a gifted graphic artist, restorer and painter. His family fled to the Netherlands during World War I and eventually settled in Rijen. Neel developed into an impressionist painter and held his first exhibition at the age of seventeen in 1927 in Tilburg. He produced numerous commissioned portraits, including those of Queen Juliana and Queen Beatrix, as well as several mayors of Gilze and Rijen. His work can be admired in the town hall of Gilze and Rijen. The State Portrait of Queen Beatrix, which hung in the council chamber from 1982 to 2013, is also by his hand.
Viewing is of course possible. We also have our own in-house frame shop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary year. We also make use of restorers from the trade association 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you would like to make use of them, please let us know.
