Description

The term icon originates from the Greek word "EIKON", which means something like "image as an image of an archetype". On the one hand, this icon is a work of art with a mystical appearance, on the other hand, it is a religious object for prayer and is used in the daily life of a believer.

Dated: Icon 19th/20th century - Frame mid 18th century
Frame: Turnover with also a mid-18th century French frame. The frame is completely carved and gilded with openwork garlands and grape vine motifs.


Provenance: Ex. Art and Antique Dealer Theo Wijnhoven Bruges - He has stated that the work came from a French Chateaux where it has always been owned by the same family. From the private collection of a art & antiques dealer.
