Salomon Gillisz. Rombouts (Haarlem, 1655 - ca. 1702) was a Dutch painter and draughtsman from the Golden Age. He was the son and pupil of landscape painter Gillis Rombouts and worked in his father’s style. He primarily created landscapes with forests, architecture, and beach scenes. Like his father, the influence of Jacob van Ruisdael is also noticeable in Salomon's work.
Rombouts was baptized in Haarlem on March 10, 1655, after two previously born children, both named Salomon, had passed away. In 1678, he became a member of the Haarlem St. Luke’s Guild. Around 1681, he left for Italy and settled in Florence.
The painting is in good condition, and the frame has been renewed.
The depiction is characteristic of Salomon Rombouts’ oeuvre, presenting a beautiful scene with farmhouses surrounded by bushes and, in the foreground, a passing farmwoman with a jug.
The artwork is available for viewing in our gallery. Additionally, Art Dumay has a framing workshop (celebrating its 85th anniversary this year) and a restoration studio. Should you wish to make use of these services, we would be happy to assist you.
