The Antwerp painter and watercolourist Henri Cassiers became famous mainly for his warmly coloured landscapes and seascapes in Flanders and Zeeland. In addition, like his Belgian contemporaries Edgar Farasyn and Maurice Sys, he had a special preference for the picturesque fishing life of Katwijk and Volendam. Cassiers' watercolours were immensely popular in his time and were printed on large scale on postcards, posters and tiles. The painter was also known as a book illustrator and he was chairman of the Societé Royale Belge des Aquarellistes for more than thirty years. Museums: including the Royal Museums of Fine Arts in Brussels.
