It was founded by Kishi Ganku (岸駒, 1749–1839), a renowned artist celebrated for his powerful and detailed depictions, particularly of tigers. The Kishi School blended elements of the Kanō School and the Maruyama-Shijō School, while also incorporating influences from Chinese painting.
