Ans van den Berg belongs to the Amsterdam Joffers, a group of women who specialized in painting still lifes and flowers in a smooth, impressionist style. She was the only one of the Amsterdam Joffers who had not attended the academy, but had developed into a skilled artist through an apprenticeship in Paris. Ans van den Berg painted portraits and figures, Laren courtyards, but her preference was still the flower still life.
